Boeung Keng Kang 1, BKK1 to everyone, is the residential grid south of the Independence Monument: villas and apartment blocks, embassies, cafés and restaurants. Tuol Sleng is a short ride south-west in BKK3, and the Olympic Stadium lies to the west.

Start at the Independence Monument, walk the gardens towards the river, and keep Tuol Sleng for a separate morning.

Visit Tuol Sleng in the morning, and give yourself a quiet afternoon afterwards.

Our advice: Topaz and Kravanh are both close by for dinner.
