Beyond Phnom Penh
Tonle Bati and Phnom Tamao: temples and rescued wildlife
The back story
About Tonle Bati and Phnom Tamao: temples and rescued wildlife
South of Phnom Penh, Tonle Bati has an Angkor-era temple, Ta Prohm, close to a lake that is a favourite weekend escape from the city. Further on, the wildlife rescue centre at Phnom Tamao cares for animals rescued from trafficking, with support from Wildlife Alliance (wildlifealliance.org).
Tonle Bati
The temple of Ta Prohm at Tonle Bati dates from the Angkor period and stands close to the lake.
Phnom Tamao
The rescue centre cares for animals rescued from the wildlife trade; Wildlife Alliance supports its work and offers visits (wildlifealliance.org).
Both lie south of the city: one car, one day.
Our advice: book a Wildlife Alliance visit rather than turning up alone.
