The Independence Monument stands at the crossing of Norodom and Preah Sihanouk boulevards and commemorates Cambodia’s independence in 1953. Its tiered, lotus-shaped tower is one of the landmarks of the 1950s and 60s, and gardens run east from it towards the river.
