The back story

About Kampot: the river town and its pepper

Kampot sits on its river near the south coast: old shophouses, a riverside promenade, and around it the farms that grow Kampot pepper, protected by a geographical indication. Bokor Mountain, with its old French hill station, rises above the town.

Getting there

Giant Ibis coaches run from Phnom Penh to Kampot (giantibis.com); Royal Railway’s southern line runs daily (royalrailway.com.kh).
