Kep: crab, the sea and 1960s villas
The back story
About Kep: crab, the sea and 1960s villas
Kep was the seaside resort of the 1960s, and its villas, some restored as hotels, still line the coast. Its crab market, where crab is cooked with Kampot pepper, is the reason many people come; Kep National Park rises behind the town.
Getting there
Giant Ibis runs coaches from Phnom Penh to Kep (giantibis.com).
The crab market
Crab with Kampot pepper, at the market stalls by the sea.
By Giant Ibis coach or by car, often combined with Kampot.
Staying
Knai Bang Chatt keeps eighteen rooms in restored 1960s villas by the sea (knaibangchatt.com); Veranda Natural Resort sits on the slopes of Kep National Park (verandaresortkep.com).
Our advice: eat crab at lunchtime, then swim and stay for the sunset.
